Word Up Weekend....Need Coffee!

Hello, hello! It is that time of week again....Word Up Weekend! 

I bought some new inks...shocking, I know...but I really didn't have any distress inks and when I saw that ALL of Tim Holtz Distress Inks were 2 dollars off retail at Hobby Lobby, I had to have them. I will probably go get more. Hopefully this means that here in TN we will finally be getting the new Oxide Inks. 

So, I used these 3 colors to create a fun splattered background and also stamped my sentiment AND my bird image onto what was left. Oh, and layered strips on top of vellum that I burned....with fire...

 That's right...fire...and vellum....it makes a really cool texture and scorch look. I doodled on the strips of paper with my paint pen, which....you know...was fun. I chose this sentiment and bird because, well, they go amazingly well together, but additionally, my son knows and says often, "No coffee, no works!" and, I thought it applied here. HAHA

Word Up Weekend!

Hello!! Its that fun time again where you learn how many amazing Stampotique sentiments there are! This project also happens to double as a texture ATC project. I love that Stampotique has ATC swaps every month.  Click the link and join! SO many talented artist participate each month! <3

So for my texture I used texture paste with a stencil (colored the paste with Lindy's) and then I used green flocking on the feathers.

I used Kassa's feather stamps in conjunction with Dina Wakely's flying bird stencil. I water-colored the feathers and then added a touch of flocking to them. Looking at them now, they also could double as ferns. I liked the words from the "barcode" stamp set (stampotique). Not sure why, but the popped out at me.

I tried to get a side view so you can see the texture. I tried to make the paste extra thick too. After not being overly inspired when I started, I really like the end result. I hope whomever I am partnered with likes them a well.

SDC 274 Oldie But A Goodie

So, awhile back I realized I had lost one of my most favorite Stampotique quotes and I was so bummed! When this challenge came up the first thing I lamented to myself that this sentiment would have been perfect. Thankfully, I was able to find it and I was so excited! It was the perfect sentiment for this beautiful tea cup from our latest release.

I used a blank wooden piece and created this plaque hanger. It was such a joy to work with this sentiment and this new tea cup. I tried to use subtle colors and make it feel like a tea party. And of course, flowers and twine.

I used gelatos to water color the tea cup and inks and a nail file to distress the edges of the papers and make it feel shabby chic.I really loved how it turned out and this may find its way to my mother for Mother's Day. ;)

Lindy's Color Challenge For April

Good morning, all! I am so excited to finally get to share this secret! Stampotiqu and Lindy's Stamp Gang have collaborated to bring you something extra special this month! The Stampotique ladies were sent some of the most amazing mixed media products that I have gotten to play with in a very long time!!  Will you just look at this deliciousness??

Of course, the color palate we were sent was perfect for the April color challenge that Lindy's has running. I love this color combination. I would never have thought to put that green in there. Perfection!

For my project I really wanted to showcase the versatility of not just Stampotique stamps, but the versatility of Lindy's products. I started with a blank chipboard frame slathered with acrylic gesso. (when in doubt, gesso!!!) I used my Flat Fabio Raspberry Lemonade. Such a gorgeous pink! Yumm-O!! I then watered it down and let it run all over, using the heat gun to move the color around. I created about 3 layers this way. 

So, my favorite product that I have tried from Lindy's has to be the magic shakers. LOOK at how many colors are magically in the Black Forest Magic Shaker, guys!!! 

 Seriously, will you just LOOK at this MAGIC up in here?? My mind almost literally exploded when I tried the Magic Shaker the first time. I already have 2 more picked out to buy you guys. Seriously...

In the end, this was my base for my frame. I love how reactive the sprays are. Just a bit of water changes everything!! SO much fun!!

Now, for the details. We were sent a little jar of Magical in Sidewalk Chalk and admittedly, at first I was unsure why we would need white....MAN was I narrow-minded. After thinking on it I experimented. A bit of Starburst Spray in Hawaiian Blue with a pinch of Magical and poof, a goreous pastel blue that I could mix into my Ranger texture paste. It....was....gorgeous!!! I used my Dina Wakely arrow stencil and that blue really popped off of the frame.

Next I decided to use the Embossing Powder we were sent (Dandelion Yellow Green).  I grabbed one of our latest release stamps from Stampotique, a scrawling script background stamp and together these are really beautiful. The only trouble is, the subtle color doesn't pick up on photo the way it does in real life so, you will just have to trust me when I tell you how beautiful it is. Subtle is good.Not to mention, I have used quite a few embossing powders in my day but this one, because of  how fine it is, has the best coverage before and after heating that I have ever used.

I used all 3 sprays, the Flat Fabio, and both Starburst sprays to water color these sweet flowers from Stampotique. I have been wanting to use this stamp for what feels like forever and this project was just the right thing. I ended up coloring 2 of them and really like how easily these sprays worked as watercolors. Additionally, I used some extra Hawaiian Blue texture paste on this vintage key. Gave it a more shabby look instead of a vintage look. The small flower here was created using a white paper flower and spraying it thoroughly with Starburst Spray in Rusty Lantern Lime. It is hard to tell, but that flower is so shimmery in the light!!

While researching Lindy's Stamp Gang I came across this really wonderful video showing how to create flowers from used baby wipes (used as in....painted and splattered, not used by babies). I knew I had to create a couple of these for this project. Using the sprays, of course. I used Rusty Lantern Lime and the Black Forest Magic Shaker on the paper frame.  

The end result is so wonderful! I will have to either gift this frame (this will be almost impossible) or, I will have to find the most wonderful photo. This frame is a statement piece all of it's own. It is difficult to see but the embossed script is on both top and bottom of the frame.

I really hope this inspires you to get messy and create something beautiful. Until this project I had no idea just how versatile all of the sprays and products really could be and I challenged myself to ONLY use the Lindy's products provided and was not at all disappointed. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised. So, thank you Lindy's Stamp Gang for teaming up with Stampotique. I see a new obsession in my future!

SDC #270 Text Background

So, as if Stampotique didn't already have a ton of good sentiments and words, they now have this sweet script stamp and I thought it was perfect for this week's challenge theme which just happens to be Text Background!

I know you have seen all of our wonderful new releases for March. This uses two of our newbies. I decided to go with mail art because it just made sense to me with the text background.

I stamped Elaine  onto some label  paper that you would normally put through your printer and heat set the ink (colorbox works awesome for this). I watercolored her and heat set her again and then she was ready to go.

As for the text, I realized I had some fucia embossing powder in my stash so the words got the embossing treatment. I don't think it will be a problem for the mail service....I hope....You can tell I was having some problems as, I didn't realize until too late, that the envelope was not 100% dry yet so the powder wanted to stick where it didn't belong. MY BAD....

I also created a label out of the label paper and distressed it a bit with some doodles and ink.  Viola! Text background! Boom! Be sure to check out our other DT members (left sidebar) because they are even more amazing!! Also be sure to link up your text background projects so we can see!!

SDC268 Ribbon and Lace

Welcome to week 2 of our Ribbon and Lace challenge. This one was a bit of a challenge for a moment for me, only because I have moved away from using ribbon, tho in the past I used it for EVERYTHING!!! Thankfully, I found this wonderful ribbon with pom poms and it was perfect for the project I had in mind.

So, it being March, did you know we had a brand new stamp release over at Stampotique? Some really neat images this time!!

So, for this card I tried to color with copics first and after 2 failed attempts I figured it was time to scratch and go a different route. Enter, Faber Castell Gelatos and a watercolor brush pen. WOW, what a difference. I was able to really let go and just create! I was originally going to find some designer papers to go with this delightful image and then I had a thought, what if I just go crazy with my gelatos! MAN, I am in love with the outcome!

For the ribbon aspect I, of course, used the same pom pom ribbon, cut off the pom poms and then used it for a scarf and it made the image come to life for me. Made it even more delightful, if that is even possible.

 Not sure about you but I kind of want to go flying with these guys!

Back For Word Up Weekend!

Over at Stampotique we have so many wonderful sentiments and they don't always get their due, so we have started doing what we call Word Up Weekend so that we can showcase our sentiments!

This week I have another new release for the month of March. CUPCAKES! Seriously! Delish, right? Not only do we have a cupcake, we also have a baby cupcake AND a cupcake SENTIMENT! Kind of perfect!

I don't use designer paper early as often as I used to, tho, my love for it has not lessened. When I saw this new cupcake set of stamps, however, I knew I had to use my designer papers to make them pop.I decided to stamp the wee cupcake all over the designer paper background to add some more flair and think it turned out great.

I water-colored and splattered the image and the sentiment. I love that you can color in this sentiment. It makes it that much more delightful. I really liked how this project turned out in the end. I also love the shimmery gelatos! Yum!

Under The Sea

No, no....this is not a story about a mermaid and a singing crab...this is the story of 2 really fun ATC cards for the latest ATC swap over on the Stampotique FaceBook page.

So, I was talking with another of the design team members about interactive cards so I decided to get started on creating some!!

This month our theme for the ATC swap is, "under the sea".  My first thought was to use our latest mer-creature again but both mer creatures were a bit large for what I was doing, though, now that I think about it....hmmm....I love it when ideas pop into your head at the most random moments.

ANYway....I decided to use a couple of sentiments coupled with our sea creatures. We have so many, but these are the two are the ones I own so these are the guys ready to pee their pants with happiness.

I am really happy with the outcome. I can't wait to create some more and maybe try some other interactive cards.

So the center/outside ATC is one of my favorite Stampotique quotes. Not sure why but it makes me want to giggle. Love the way the squiggle arms and the  bling play with the words of the sentiment.

The second part of the project continues the theme of under the sea as well as peeing your pants. .lol Apparently, we at Stampotique like potty humor...and I approve. If happiness is like peeing then, couldn't YOU just pee your pants? I sure could. Love this seahorse. There are actually more than just this guy. You should check out our shop.

Seeing Red SDC267

So, if you had told me a few years ago to only use shades of red I may have cried. Seriously. I work so much with teals, and purples and blues and greens that the idea of going red may have sent me around the bend.

Fast forward to now....and I am totally okay with it. I have turned over a few leaves creatively speaking and now dive into ANY and ALL colors.

So, for this challenge, "seeing red" I was all set to use my go-to Dylusions (which I STILL LOVE, btw) and remembered that I have so many Faber Castell gelatos that I never seem to use anymore. So, I used the mess out of them!!

So to create this little hanging I used some chipboard and treated it with a healthy layer of gesso. I used 3 different shades of red to create a fun watercolor background. Also used texture paste with a fun stencil to add some depth.

All in all I am in love with the outcome of this fun little hanging. And, of course LOVED this funny little  sentiment. Had my son in fits of giggles.

I can't wait to find a place to hang this little guy. Its the perfect thing to cheer you up on a dreary day. We can't wait to see all of the shades of red you all come up with!

Word Up Weekend

Its that time again! Word Up Weekend! We recently had a new release at Stampotique and this Brolly was one of the newest stamps! It is so versatile and charming! And, of course, one of my favorite sentiments from Stampotique, "Just Keep On".

Of course, this brolly made me want to get out my blue and teal Dylusions to create a spring rainy  day. I also decided to pop out the front part of the umbrella to add more dimension to the umbrella. Its a sweet little ATC and I almost don't want to share it.

My second project, while it has no sentiment, it another image from our latest release. Her name is, Communitree. I love her organic feel. I feel like she really needed something warmer than brown so I went a bit crazy with the color, but not SO crazy. The feather came from my backyard and I felt that it was perfect for the subject of the image.

Word Up Weekend Time!

Its that time again where we showcase some really wonderful sentiments from Stampotique! I seriously love all of our sentiments. Its so wonderful to have images and sentiments that go so well together.

This week I wanted to play with this adorable octopus. I can say that I am not sure what drew me to this sentiment for this project but I got a real kick out of it.

Originally I wanted to use some bold teals and purples and greens here but I LOVE how it turned out pastel. Sometimes mistakes are just "happy little accidents".

Seriously? Every time this man was on TV I went away feeling like I was an artist...and look at me now!! Talking about peeing my pants with excitement ahahaha. .

Favorite Stamp SDC265

Hidey Ho, Neighbor! 10 points if you know what that's from.... Spoiler alert, its Home Improvement.

Yeah, I am old.....friggen 1990s called haha.

Alright, alright. Back to the important things. This week we are working on using our favorite stamps of ALL TIME! So, about a year ago I discovered this amazing stamp company and was lucky enough to make my way onto the design team about 6 months later. Before that I had a very SMALL stash of these beautiful works of art, like....3. SO. I used them a LOT in many different ways. Now I have a rather beautifully large stash of these wonderful stamps but my favorite is still this one. "Smitten Moustashe Monsters".

I went simple this time on purpose. I really wanted the point of the project to be my fave Stampotique stamp. Even went old school with inked and distressed edges. Something I have never really done is stamp and color on kraft stock. I used crayola colored pencils. Love how these little love monsters turned out. I hope they make you smile!

Glad to be back on task. Word up weekend is a fun little thing we do over at Stampotique to showcase all of the many wonderful sentiments available in the shop.

This weekend I was excited to break in some newbies to my collection. I love all of the snarky sentiments! They work so well with so much of my work, and my personality.

I seriously LOVE this lil kitty and the smug look on its face. So completely goes with the sentiment here and makes me smile. This sentiment also hits home, as, it is well past time for me to make some lifestyle changes. o.O

SDC 264, Anything Goes! Happy 2017!!

Good morning, all! I am thrilled to be back for a second term with Stampotique! I so love their stamps and style, and I LOVE the ladies and gent I have gotten to know over the last 6 months.

Its has been such a CRAZY last 2 months thanks to the Holidays here in the states as well as my son's 10th birthday. (my aching heart!) It will be awesome to dive back into creating!

To start 2017, Stampotique is using the theme, "Anything Goes". The perfect theme to get our feet wet after the crazy of the holiday season!

I decided to just go crazy with color, and I wanted the card to reflect how I plan to tackle 2017. I used the Unicorn by Magda Polakow and the "Sometimes I Pretend" sentiment by Jo Capper-Sandon. I think they go perfectly together!

I used an Action Wobble on the Unicorn so that when you touch it, it wobbles! It makes it that much more fun!!

The colors, the unicorn, the sparkle and the snark....this is how I plan to spend 2017! Cannot wait to see what everyone comes up with! Happy 2017 to all!

SDC 263 Its CHRISTMAS TIIIIME!!

Oh, goodness. Here we go! Its the CHRISTMAS season guys! You know what that means?? Tons and tons of Christmas DIY projects! So, here's another one. Probably the best one you will see all year! Okay, maybe not. I'm a nerd.

Okay, so when the theme Christmas came up in the Stampotique DT, I didn't want to just make another Christmas card. I wanted to think a bit outside the box. First I had thought about making my own wrapping paper, and that WILL happen, but I couldn't find just white paper so I went with the next best thing: a gift bag!

I created my masterpiece on Bristol smooth surface paper, to later be attached to the bag. Of course, I went with my go-to background technique. Someday, I want to make a line of papers using this technique.

I am not traditional with Christmas colors. I really, mostly, don't like red and green together as a general rule, so, reds and blues and oranges ruled this project. I stamped "ho, ho, ho" all over the tag portion of the bag. For the bag itself I stamped Stampotique circles all over the background and then doodled tops and hooks on them to create ornaments and Holly Wally then took center stage.

I love how this turned out.Such a whimsical take on Christmas. Outside the box (literally?) Maybe this will inspire you to create some gift-wrap options of your own for that special someone (and I don't mean the ELF idea of that special someone hehe)

SDC 261, Switch It up!

This time around at Stampotique we are switching it up....LITERALLY!

Stampotique has so many amazing creatures and people in their vast stamp collection. This time around we want you to switch it up. Put a human head on a creature, or, put a creature head on a human. This was a really fun challenge! What a great way to mix up and use stamps you already own!

I used Bat Boy's Body and used Goat Monster's head. They actually go very well together! I used my watercolor pencils and colored me new creation. The sentiment is also Stampotique. I  used my watercolor/spray ink technique to create the background and used Hanging Hearts to round it off. A bit of doodling and this card was ready to roll.

Word Up Weekend, "La De Frickin Dah!"

I am pretty sure that you know how much I love snarky sentiments by now. This post will be no exception. I recently ordered some more stamps from Stampotique and just HAD to create a card using some of my new images.

Over at the Stampotique Facebook page we are working on Word Up Weekends, which, essentially means that since we LOVE our sentiments we are sharing project with you that use just that! Sometimes its hard to come up with sentiments for a project. That is why we took the hard work out of it for you!

I have been drooling over Rudy the seahorse for quite some time and finally had to buy him. I had a watercolor paper already made that just seemed perfect for him. And, of course, a snarky sentiment, also from Stampotique.

ATC! Approach With Caution!

OKay, I am back! With more ATCs! Seriously, I never realized how therapeutic creating an ATC could be. When you don't have a lot of time but really have the itch to create, these little cards are just about perfect. 

I love this cactus stamp from Stampotique and had a lot of fun envisioning a sunset, desert sky for the background.

The background orange and pinks were created with dylusions sprays. Love how the colors gradated. The sunburst is a Tim Holtz stencil (rays) that I just love and use quite a bit, with Dina Wakely heavy body acrylic paint and I love how the paint just sticks in place and shows all of the details of the stencil.

 I colored the cactus with my copic markers. I am having fun getting reacquainted with them. I have been using watercolor pencils quite a bit and have really started missing my copics. I mixed the copics with a Prima marker, which, surprisingly I love almost as much as my copic markers. They blend very well!

Annnnd, of course, when around cacti in the desert PLEASE approach with caution. ;)

It is Saturday which means we are going to start hi-lighting the many fantastic sentiments that Stampotique sells! Our artists have sentiments everything from holidays, to inspirational quotes to snark, which, are my faves.

Today I used Sarcasm . Because, it is my language. ;) I really do love all of the sentiments we have. Such a range makes it easy to find something to go with any style and any image. Listen to me. I sound like a walking commercial, but in all seriousness, they have such a great range!!

I feel like I am perfecting my watercoloring technique for my paper and this one really popped for me. Someday I hope to create my own line of papers using this technique. <3 Here is another I created this week:

SDC #258 Favorite Quote

When I was younger, I had a Tigger (yes, tigger) notebook that I used to write down every inspirational quote that meant something to me. I must still have it somewhere. Anyway, I kind of wish I still knew where it was. This week we are continuing our theme at Stampotique, which is, "favorite quote". Luckily, Stampotique has a lot of fun and inspirational quote stamps.

This one, "Color Her Soul" really spoke to me. It needed to be a wall hanging. It is a larger stamp so that worked out well. Moth Fab seemed like the perfect girl to be paired with this sentiment. 

And, of course, Moth Fab got the watercolor pencil treatment as well as a white paint pen to make her pop. Love using mixed colors on her. 

Its no secret that I have really gotten into mixed media over the last couple of years, and this is no exception. For this wall hanging I used Dina Wakely heavy bodied acrylic paint as well as some other acrylic paint. For the texture on the background I used Diane Revealy's "large triangle" stencil and Ranger texture paste. 

Loved how all of these elements came together to tell a story and back up the sentiment. Went a little heavy on the accessories, but I think they work. Even stiffened some bakers twine to create a fun detail behind the flowers.
