Monster Mash

So I have been very busy this last month, not that my blog shows it, so let me catch you up.

First, I build an igloo for my son's classroom (they are working on an arctic unit and learned about the Inuit Indians) entirely out of hot glue and masses (literally hundreds) of milk jugs. Its not perfect, but they kids LOVE it and it was the hit of the social studies fair for his classroom. Noah's teacher and I spent literally weeks making calls and gathering jugs from various starbucks and from other people. It was hard, but we finally managed to get enough.

Believe it or not, I DID Smash* last month too! I managed to finish the month of February (though, I may add a picture of the igloo to the pocket on the right page). February went by in a  blur, but I was very blessed, and I love my hubbs and my lil guy.

And finally, I come to today. March came in like...well, I am not really sure...we had snow, but it was too warm to stick. Would you consider that a lion? I don't know. Either way,  I made time to work on a project for Noah. So, my little guy turned 6 in December and has become obsessed with the idea of losing teeth. The only problem? He has never even had a LOOSE tooth. Poor kiddo. One of his sweet friends at school was so excited that she had a loose tooth and Noah got so upset. He was sad that he hadn't had one yet. ::sigh:: Dude, you are only 6. There is time! Promise!

I found this adorable monster tooth pillow on Pinterest....duh...where else? I just HAD to make one for Noah. He sleeps like a MONSTER...all over the bed, all hangin out on the end of the bed, or in the floor. His covers and pillow never stay on the bed for the entire night. This pillow is the perfect solution, as it can hang on his door. 

I used some corduroy that I have had for awhile and have actually used to make a pillow cover with in the past. Then I found some adorable cotton fabric at walmart and went to work. I have never done applique before and was scared. Not sure why I was scared. It was so super easy! I might be addicted to applique!

(please excuse our really banged up door jams. That's on our to-do list for this spring.)

Back on the "horse"

So, Smash*booking has taken over my life. Oh, wow. I love it...but it also means that I have gotten entirely behind in my actual scrap-booking. I went to Walmart and got some pictures printed (some of which I had to sign a release for? Guess I am just "that good?"). 

I can honestly say, scrapbooking is a lot harder for me than it used to be, no thanks to Smash*booking. I got through 3 pages, hated the third, started a fourth and froze....BRAIN FART. Yeah. I gotta get back into the groove!!! Oi. 

I do like how these two turned out, though. Trying to mix my styles....::sigh::

I also got to do a photo shoot this weekend for the first time in...I can't remember the last time I did a shoot?   My husband surprised me while we were wrapping up and brought my son out to the farm so I got to shoot a few of him as well. Who needs school pics? lol 

And this stud, who apparently LOVED the camera. Bahaha. He kept doing this to me and trying to smell the camera. Crack me up.

And I just keep smash*n!

I have been so excited about my 365 Smash* journey for 2013. My ONLY issue is...I think the book will be standing open at a 90 degree angle when the year is over, but that just means it was a great year, imo!

So today I was able to stay up-to-date and get my smash* on for Feb. Okay...I might have another issue....not enough room. Like...they should make the next 365 the size of the purple pocket book so I can add EVERYTHING! Like project runway...and stuff like that...HAHA

Anywho, so I did Groundhog's Day. Someone posted the funny on the bottom of the page on FB and I had to use it cause, lets face it...we're all thinkin it. Its right up there with whistle pig wednesday. (which you would only understand if you were a mom that has watched that particular curious george episode...)

::shakes head:: Regardless, here it is! Snow and all! 

The second page, of course, is the super bowl! Woo! Quite the memorable evening, for sure! Can't believe the stuff that went down! And we had fun here at home, goofing off and eating scrummy food.

Smash*ing January

I am so happy! I have completed my January section in my 365 Smash* journal! It was so fun and I srsly am excited to start February!

This first one I posted already, but it is part of the January package. Just a spread of my hopes and plans for the new year.

This page is the saga of my husband and I being sick for WEEKS after Christmas. Ending with nasty pneumonia. Ugh. I am SO glad to be back on top. It was awful. 

This page is just about our weather and peaceful weather it has been....though, tonight we are supposed to get tornadoes. Not sure why its in the 70s in January in TN?!?

A fun page of my son and his cousins at a birthday party, and me and Noah goofing off while we were bowling! January has been FUN!

I am SO excited! We are finally painting our bedroom and covering the hideous terracotta color and replacing it with a cool, calm color. New curtains and a wall hanging too! WOO!!!!

This last page is about the circus we went to the other day. My son was enthralled with every part of the circus, and I was relieved at the lessened animal exploitation. It was an adventure and good memories!

So, this year, my son's school is having a social studies fair, and his class is studying the Arctic Inuit tribe. He is loving it! For their fair, the chicklets are to dress up in Inuit costumes. I love making costumes for Noah, so this was fun for me!

I went to one of our local second hand stores and found a woman's coat that looked like suede and fur (fake, of course) for $4.25, and a pair of women's dress pants that were a similar color. I was hoping to be able to cut them up and make them smaller, but it didn't work out.

I made a pattern for the size of the top with some tissue paper and a shirt that is comfy and a little bigger on Noah. 

I cut up the coat and sized it down. I took out the sleeves so they could be sized down as well.  I cut off the bottom cuff of the sleeves and they were perfect for making the fur anklets I wanted to make for his boots/pants.

My darling husband made a fuzzy hood from the left over bottom portion of the coat. He stuffed poly fill into the fur so that it would stand up more. I am so thankful for his help! I couldn't have made such a nice hood!

We decided to just go with a pair of khaki pants for the bottom portion of the costume. It looks better than I thought! Add some snow boots and fur bootie covers and you have a lil eskimo!

RAWER! He loves his bear paws. (no, I didn't make them...they are toys)

And, of course, with the polar bears.  

So now, I can rest easy and know my son is ready for his social studies fair next month. My next project? Securing enough milk jugs from Starbucks to help his teacher make an igloo! Hope you enjoyed! I do apologize for the quality of the first few pix. Cell phone. Need I say more?

Beauty

Today, I made a card! Its been ages since I have made a card, so it took me quite awhile to get it how I wanted it, but in the end, I really like the final product.

This card is for the Saturated Canary challenge. Their theme this time around is, Movies. It helps that Saturated Canary has several movie themed images to choose from.

For this card I used "Rose Red" and the movie, of course, being Snow White and the Huntsman. I liked that movie, despite the use of Kristen Stewart. Haha. Not a fan. ANYwho. I hope you enjoy this card! I really enjoyed coloring Rose Red. :)

Aprons, Aprons

I pretty much lovemaking aprons. All kinds. Just love em. Srsly. So when a dear friend of mine sent me this link, I just had to make her one. I love finding fabrics at Goodwill. This fabric was so bright and fun. Not bad for 2 dollars. :)

This apron was fun and easy to make. Any beginner seamstress would be able to make this cutee.
